Our church is committed to helping our families ensure that you have up-to-date estate plans. Through a partnership with the Georgia Baptist Convention, we are hosting a Will and Estate Planning event. This is an opportunity to obtain or update three very important documents that everyone should have: a Basic will, a Living will/Healthcare surrogate and a Power of attorney. Each family will have a scheduled appointment to sit down with an attorney who will help you complete these documents. All appointments will be held here at North Metro. The cost for these professional services are $350 for a family and $300 for a single person.
Why are we providing this service? We want families to be prepared for death and making provisions for their families and to ensure their children are protected by having an up-to-date Estate plan. Our church, like many, have not promoted planned giving as an element of Christian stewardship. By partnering with the Georgia Baptist Mission Board and their legal services, we are able to make this service available at an extremely low cost to members of our fellowship. Each family that participates will have an opportunity to leave a legacy bequest to the Kingdom.
Who can participate? This service is offered to all North Metro members and active attenders.
What is the cost? The cost per couple is $350 and $300 for an individual.
What can I expect? Once you have signed up and made an appointment, you will be sent a packet with instructions for your appointment and a CONFIDENTIAL questionnaire to prepare before your appointment. During your appointment you will meet with the attorney and/or one of his paralegals and go over your forms and your personal desires. After your decisions have been clarified and recorded, the attorney will prepare your three major documents and mail them directly to you. When you receive and approve your newly crafted documents, you will need to have them notarized to assure they are legally enacted.
What is included? A basic Will, a Living Will/Health Surrogate and Power of Attorney.
What if I have a complicated estate that requires additional legal services? The attorney will make recommendations to you if he feels you need additional documents. If you decide to accept his recommendations, any additional costs will be between you and the attorney.
If I decide to leave a bequest to North Metro, what will the church do with this gift? Any gifts will be used to expand our local ministry and mission efforts. Also, gifts may be given to support a scholarship fund for North Metro students who attend a Georgia Baptist college or university.
Who will know about my decision: This is a CONFIDENTIAL process. You will meet with an attorney or paralegal. No one outside this process, including any and all North Metro staff will know any details about your personal decisions.
I already have a will. Why do I need to participate: This is a terrific opportunity to have your estate plan reviewed. Laws change, and your documents may need to be updated.
