About Pastor Cox

Pastoring North Metro Since 1980.

“Jesus Be Jesus In Me” isn’t just a tune you’ll catch him singing in the hallways, it’s the desire of his heart and impulse for ministry. For Dr. Frank Cox, preaching the steadfast truth of God’s Word comes without reservation and with much motivation after experiencing the transforming and restorative power in his own life.

A native of Tallahassee, Florida, Dr. Cox attended Truett-McConnell University, graduated from Mercer University in Atlanta, earned his Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, received his Doctor of Ministry from Luther Rice Seminary and a Doctor of Divinity from Truett-McConnell University. Among many positions Dr. Cox has held in leadership, he has been the President of the Georgia Baptist Convention and 1st Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Having served as Senior Pastor of North Metro for 43 years, Dr. Cox has had the unique privilege of shepherding a congregation through the lens of compassion and understanding after losing his first wife, Debbie, in 1986. In his book, Trusting God’s Heart, he shares what God taught him through this time of grief and how God restored his joy.

If not preaching, Dr. Cox is a much sought after speaker for conferences and universities, including the SBC Pastor’s Conference and at Liberty University. Whereat, Dr. Cox can be heard sharing his testimony and heart for living a life with purpose as written in his second published book, Legacy: One Life to Live.

With the Lord’s providential leading and direction, Dr. Cox is excited about the future of North Metro as it looks to relocate to Braselton, Georgia, at the corner of four bustling counties – Gwinnett, Jackson, Hall and Barrow – in Winter 2024/Spring 2025.

Pastor is married to his biggest encourager and prayer warrior, Mary. They have three children: daughter, Kristen (husband, Blake); sons Stephen (wife, Brooke) and Jonathan (wife, Orie), and six grandchildren. When he’s not behind the pulpit or ministering to his congregation and community, Dr. Cox can be found with a great book or traveling with Mary.
