North Metro Baptist offers a variety of mission opportunities throughout each year that are a part of the Acts 1:8 Strategy. This strategy is to serve and reach the people in “our” Jerusalem (our community); Judea (our state); Samaria (our country); and the world! Some of these opportunities are offered through specific mission trips while others are offered through participation in a Life Group mission project.
Local Missions Opportunities
R.E.A.C.H
Reaching Everyone Around our Church and Home. This Life Group mission opportunity occurs in the late Spring and early Summer of each year. Life Groups are encouraged to canvass and host an event in the community of one of the participants from their class. This person helps lead the charge of coordinating the event within their neighborhood and helping class leaders make the necessary arrangements. Most classes use this opportunity to host Block Parties where class members help with set-up, grilling, games, face painting and a host of other activities. Church literature and information are provided to all those who come.
Give Yourself Away
This Life Group mission opportunity occurs in the Fall of each year. This event allows classes to find specific needs within our community and to go and serve and help meet these needs. Previous mission projects have included light construction or repair on homes, yard work, painting, car maintenance, collection of food and clothing among other items. The main emphasis of each class is to find the needs of the un-churched in our community and help meet those needs. In doing so, prayerfully this will allow us to share the love of Jesus with those in our community.
Additional Local Missions Opportunities
Back to School Backpacks - At the end of each summer North Metro collects new backpacks and school supplies for DFACS Gwinnett to be given to foster children and under privileged children in our county. Back packs and supplies are given to kids of all ages K-12th grade.
Operation Christmas Child – During the Fall of each year we collect shoe boxes filled with items for boys and girls from the ages of 2 – 14 and they are distributed to over 120 countries. School supplies, small toys, hygiene items and hard candy are just a few of the recommended items to be given. Local Christians also give out colorful storybooks about Jesus to the children in their own language. Operation Christmas Child is a part of the Samaritan’s Purse ministries. Additionally we schedule days to go volunteer at the local packing warehouse to help pack these items to be shipped. Please look for dates in the monthly newsletter and the weekly e-news.
Clothes Drive – In September 2011 we will begin a clothing drive to help collect clothes for the people in the Appalachian area of our country. This ministry will go and support the work of the Southern Baptist missionaries in this area who distribute clothing to needy families. The following are items that are needed: Infant, preschool, and children clothing and coats. Ladies clothing (especially casual business attire). Blue jeans for men, women and children. Men’s clothing (no suits needed). New shoes are needed for children and youth (they cannot accept used shoes).New clothes are always welcomed. Please send clothes in good and clean condition. Clothes need to be in bags or boxes and placed behind your car. They will be picked up before you leave the Sunday morning worship service. Our first pick up date is Sunday, September 18th!
World Missions Opportunities
Moscow
January 2012
This coming January we have a trip planned to Moscow, Russia to go and serve the IMB missionaries there. We will be a retreat location with them and they have asked us to come and to lead them in Praise and Worship services using the English language. They spend so much of their time learning and ministering in Russian that they miss Worship services in their native language. We will also be ministering to the children of the missionaries while we are there.
Additional world missions opportunities will be announced at the end of November 2011.
